Belize is a small country in Central America, bordering the Caribbean Sea. It has a popular cruise port and a wide variety of activities and attractions.
Belize is the only country in Central America where English is the official language. That fact makes communication in Belize easier than in other Central American countries. But Belize also has an amazing amount to offer as a travel destination.
Mayan Ruins
Belize is home to some very impressive Mayan ruins that you can tour, climb, and explore. One that is not too far from the cruise port is Altun Ha, which is about 30 miles North of Belize City. Altun Ha has a number of impressive structures and makes for a great tour.
Another even more impressive site is Caracol, which has a Mayan temple that is the tallest man-made structure in all of Belize. Caracol is located about 25 miles West of San Ignacio.
Belize Barrier Reef
The Belize Barrier Reef is the second largest barrier reef in the world and creates for some fantastic snorkeling and scuba diving. For the more adventurous there are trips allowing you to swim with sharks and stingrays. There are also 127 small islands off the coast of Belize that are excellent for fishing.
Jungles of Belize
Belize is covered with lush jungles, making for good hiking, exploring, and bird watching. Belize is also home to the largest cave system in Central America. There are also a lot of rivers flowing through the jungles that are excellent for kayaking or rafting.
All in all, Belize is a great country well worth an extended visit in order to explore all it has to offer. A visit to Belize is highly recommended.
